Spring has sprung and with it comes the often dreaded cleaning checklist! After these long, dark winter months spring cleaning can revive not only your home but also your mind and spirit. Mess = stress! It keeps you from things you love (like hosting that dinner party!) and contributes to feeling overwhelmed. We all want a clean home, but the thing is: not everyone knows how to achieve and maintain this. Here are 3 steps to creating a routine that works for you:
- Create a task list room by room
- Decide how often each task should be performed (daily, weekly, monthly) and then enter each task into your calendar
- Set aside 30-45 minutes each day to check items off your list (10-15 minutes before work, after work and before bedtime works just as well)
Having a hard time getting started? Pick one room and set the timer for 15 minutes. Next, start in the furthest corner and make your way from top to bottom, left to right. Don’t forget to bring a trash bag and a box for items to donate or sell (might as well kill 2 birds with 1 stone and de-clutter as you go). Once the timer goes off, you’re done! Just pick up where you left off next time. Didn’t get as far as you hoped? Don’t be so hard on yourself! The important thing is you started and after a few quick cleaning and de-cluttering sessions the momentum will pick up and you’ll be revelling in self satisfaction with each chore you check off (it really does feel good, trust me).
